5 common mistakes we make while putting together a kitchen:

Designing a kitchen is a fusion of mathematics and creativity. While designing a kitchen,we ensure to utilise every inch of the space, especially when it comes to keeping everything tidy and organised. A kitchen is supposed to be the heart of the home, but a few kitchen design mistakes can quickly make it feel like the exact opposite, a space that doesn’t quite work how you need it to. In contemporary times most people do not want larger spaces, but solutions to maximise their compact spaces. As the kitchen contains several necessities, everything needs to be thoroughly accessed. Considering our experience we will run you through some of the common mistakes people make while putting the kitchen together.

1.Not consulting an architect or an Interior Designer.

Everything that is required while designing a kitchen may seem like a lot to consider, but planning smartly can save years of regret in the long run. With expert advice, one can avoid many kitchen design mistakes and end up with the ideal kitchen for your family. Ask us anything and we at Swift Homes are there to help you choose the best cabinets, share the latest trends and make your new kitchen everything you’ve ever dreamt of.

2.  No space between sink, cooktop and refrigerator-

It is important to ensure that there’s enough room between three points: the sink, cooktop and refrigerator which is also known as the working triangle. If there’s no counter space between the sink and the cook top, you will need to go out of your way to find a chopping area.

Several things that make a kitchen perfect include the layout like making the fridge easily accessible while cooking, having a special place for chopping so that the functionality of the kitchen is flawless. After all, one of the cornerstones of every kitchen is combining function and practicality with our wants, needs and personality.

Ideally, you should have countertop space on both sides of the cooktop, although you may not have a lot of options in a small kitchen. At the very least, you should have enough counter space beside the gas top so that you can put down the heavy dishes that have been cooked.

When deciding on how much counter space you need, make sure you account for things like multiple people helping to prepare food, sorting groceries after a shopping

3. Inadequate Ventilation –

Unless you have the right ventilation measures in place to eliminate kitchen smells and prevent them from spreading to the rest of your home. It’s an easy design mistake to make.

Ventilation in the kitchen is often overlooked by the majority of people, but the truth is that ventilation is just as important as cleanliness. The cooking and preparing food generates heat, smoke, grease and odours. Installing a functional ventilation system is the easiest way to improve the air quality in the kitchen. Also if you have a window space it can add to the ventilation as well as the lighting in the kitchen space.

Proper lighting is important for both functionality and ambiance in the kitchen. Make sure to include enough lighting in your design, including task lighting for countertops and ambient lighting for the overall space

4. Skimping on quality when it comes to kitchen cabinets-

Since kitchen cabinets are the essential components of the kitchen, therefore selecting high quality cabinets should be a top priority when designing a kitchen. The kitchen cabinets should be sturdy enough to withstand many years. Although kitchen design would account for a big part of your budget, do not get tempted to opt for cabinets that look good but won’t last long. Kitchen cabinets must endure daily wear and tear so always invest the best material and good quality cabinets.

5. Flooring that doesn’t match the space or do its job.

The most common mistake people make while designing a kitchen is treating the floor as insignificant. The floor is a very important aspect of our kitchen.Just as there are many beautiful options available for your walls and backsplash, you’ll find a variety of patterns and materials for your floor. Select a surface that not only works well with your design but is also durable and resistant to stains and scratches. Therefore it’s best to opt for high quality, durable flooring that is low maintenance and will stand the test of time.

A good kitchen should see you through at least 10 years, so it’s important to get it right.
